As part of an EU-supported IMIPREDECT consortium, a Dutch study showed that abiraterone acetate (AA) may have an additional mechanism of action to block growth of castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). The study, which won the first prize for best oncology abstract at the 28th European Association of Urology (EAU) Congress, showed that antiandrogenic properties of AA may stop androgen receptor (AR) activation by precursor hormones that accumulate on drug therapy.
